Geology Field Trip

BEng8ers

Please be informed that our geology field trip is on Monday 09th November 2009. Everybody has to attend before 0745hrs for cavity search prior to boarding the 'appropriate bus' which will depart at approximately 0800hrs. Anybody who could not make it in time, the institute's transport will be provided and you have to report to Mr Pinky with all sorts of your lame excuses.

Furthermore, refreshments will be provided for the trip so you dont have to bring your mom's nasi lemak in a 'ringkat' or tupperware for that matter. No confirmation on what type of food you will be having but rumours are saying that each one of you will get a box of 'Tora' or 'Dindang'.

Lastly, please wear proper clothing for the trip because you might get dirty and since everybody will be observing, feeling, touching and tasting all sorts of geological stuffs, please bring your own gloves, goggles and not forgetting the rayden's hat for sun bathing for quite some time on that day. It is also advisable to bring cameras to take all the important pictures for your reports.

That's all for now!

Geology & Hydraulics

Hello BEngers!

Just to inform you all that our Geology trip to Sandakan, Sipitang & Tanjung Rambutan is postponed till further notice. The transport to these destinations are not available at the moment because the institute was expecting a much bigger transport with higher load capacity. Studies has shown a rise intake of 'chocolate last semester' and 'nasi bro' over the past few semesters, in which the institute speculated that the transportation booked for the trip was not appropriate. With that we just gonna continue with lecture.

Geology lecture for Monday, 2nd November 2009 will be from 1020hrs till lunchtime only. There will be no Hydraulics lecture but if you still insist to come for lecture, you have to bring your own tables and chairs to sir Bam's office. Theres no indication on how many people can fit into his office but you'll have to manage yourself.

Since the afternoon is free, it is wise to practice on your meeting thingy because with the previous 'cawieeeness' of DC, we might as well work on it thoroughly to topup the lost precious marks from the previous cawieee task.

Anyway, thats all for now guys.

(Raya thingy will be updated soon, sorry for any inconveniences)

Re: Selamat Hari Raya Pt.1

Selamat Hari Raya again BEngers!

We are still in the month of Syawal and hari raya is still in the air, well bits and pieces of it. Some hari raya enthusiast might be still celebrating to the max with open house serving wide range of food from eastern to western, malay to indian, indian to chinese, chinese to japanese, japanese to arabic, and it goes on and on till finally stopping at 'nasi katok bro' (whhaaaattt...).

Cakes and biscuits have become more colourful than they were used to, not forgetting the ever-so-famous 'kueh moors' and 'tapak kudas'. The BEng management recently were surprised by the latter which have evolved to 'tapak gajahs'. Yes, wierd huh... But yeah, they do exist. Peanut butter are used in place of the normal nutella, but the design remains the same. Rumours are saying that a new type from the tapak family will be out next year named 'Tapak Kelindahau'. The savoury part is mashed kembayau with zest of belachan tamu kianggeh. You need to order this amazing mouth watering special at least a month before puasa for the blessings of kelindahaus before the ramadhan quarantine.

Anyway, the BEngers were invited to Nyeh's open house on the 2nd week of syawal after the holiday. Most of the group came, along with few seniors that were due to fly to Belfast. Everybody had fun with all sorts of acrobatic photo shoot poses. Thank you Nyeh, the food was nice. If the parents weren't around, the group pretty sure would have gone for second or third rounds.

Here are some of the pictures taken....

That's all for now guys, till next post... BYE!

Selamat Hari Raya

BEngers!

Selamat Hari Raya! Thousand apologies to everybody for not updating much sooner. Lots of stuffs goin around since the last post but the management were unable to update because of too much work to do with little time to finish, thanks again to the wonderful people in the institute.

How was your raya BEngers? Did you guys still get the green packets? For those who got lots, you need to get rid of those diapers man, its about time. You have an option not to take it if you think you are big enough to get em'. Ang pow kalllleeeee..... And what about fasting during ramadhan, forget the ladies, did the guys fasted the whole month? Or did some of you had pms also so you did not get to fast on some days? If that was the case, you need to get to your thingies checked.

Anyway, to patch things up from the last post;-

# The Structures test was indeed quite a difficult one, many had claimed had a hard time to answer the first question since the second one was a bit similar to the tutorial question but with a slight twist. DM was also unhappy with the few papers he had marked so for the next test, he will include torsion again with buckling. And yes, you need to work your ass again real hard this time or you are bound to LJ.

# The BEngers also had series of sungkai-out planning which some did not turned out well. The underlying causes were under investigation and for some reasons, it had come to a point that there was no point of investigating the causes because in the end, the conclusion will be the same ol lame thing. But within the last few days before the hearing of promiscuous mama moon, some of the BEngers finally had managed to sungkai-out despite the allegations of misunderstanding and misinformation. We had a great time, the food was nice and thanks to Dean for the treat, we all appreciated it.

And thats pretty much the missing part of the BEngers activities because much of the other part is irrelevant and is best forgotten in this festive season. The BEng8 management also would like to take this opportunity to beg forgiveness from all of you for everything that had said and done. Some perhaps offended by the blog and might caused pain to others.

SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI. MAAF ZAHIR DAN BATIN.

Till next time, bye!

(Raya stuff will be out soon on the next post)

Re: Reminder

Bengers!

Good news guys!
The Structures 2 test is postponed to saturday @ 1030hrs and the Design 2 test will be some time next week. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! Thank god!

Bad news!
You still have to work your ass off for the test. If anybody need help with their studies, LJ Tuition school is offering tuition class for pre-school starting next week saturday @ 1845hrs, the same day as the sighting of Syawal moon. The main activities for the tuition will be drawing and colouring, singing and dancing with the teachers and reading. Please contact the main office for more information on additional activities.

It was also reported that the Syawal moon is not ready to be delivered on saturday. Speculations were made by some unreliable sources that the father of the moon is yet to be identified and the promiscuous life of the mother is still under investigations. Some Hari Raya enthusiasts are pretty sure that the baby moon will be out by saturday or otherwise the mama moon might be induced or otherwise, c-sectioned on sunday for further investigations on the baby.

Anyway, good luck with your tests and holiday is coming soon yaay...

Bye!

RAMADHAN

Salam BEngers!

Ramadhan is finally here guys and its fasting time. The fasting during Ramadhan is regarded as a method of self purification. It is a time for spiritual contemplation, test your patience and to contain the nafsu b***. (censored to minimized fasting pahala depletion)

So guys, no more time-consuming-where-to-eat decision to make at lunchtime and the good thing is that you can save your lunch money to buy the must-have books which are now being distributed at the Phase 1 Building conference room. Some people still thinking of buying them and some perhaps still not sure of the importance of having such books. Anyway, it is noted that it is compulsory to have them and they are on first come first serve basis.

Furthermore, there will be a slight change on our academic timetable during this holy month. Each period is 10 minutes short so everthing will be finished at 1450hrs (a bit odd don't you think).

Last but not least, the BEng8 management would like to wish everybody Happy Fasting and beg forgiveness for any mistakes, inconvenience and to those who perhaps hurt along the way.

That's all for now, bye!

Welcome To 2nd Year!

Hello BEngers, newcomers & oldcomers!

Holiday is over guys! 2nd year begins and our journey continues, even closer to the LJ so it is time to work a bit harder people... Otherwise you gonna be stuck in the circle of LJ forever.

This 1st half of the year, we gonna be seeing few lecturers only and there will be no exam except for Geology in November. And again, we have to attend communication lectures as in the 1st year, which was a bit scary for some people, not that the lecturer was the 'Chaba' but he was very hard to please and not that generous with grading. Fortunately this time, the job is taken over by the new Dr and it is more to report writing and interviews, and somehow fun.

Structures is a lot tougher than in the previous year and we should be working our ass off with this one because this is the ever-famous 'students failing agent' of the course. Furthermore, be sure to be prepared with answers before being questioned by the most ear-poking-very-crystal-clear-and-scolding-like voiced lecturer. Hes a walking microphone, with 2 subwoofers tagging along. He sure does look and sound scary but luckily for the ones who are shy (or rather scare) to ask questions during the lecture, they are most welcome to his office and he can help you to overcome your shyness.

Lastly, after series of not so nice reviews, our mayering Dr has toned down a bit and for the 1st time in years, he deliberately giving wide smiles during lecture. How on earth that happened? Oh well good for him, and us to in a way.

Anyway, thats all for now!

Good Luck BEnger!

HOLIDAY!!!

BEngers!
.
How is your holiday guys? Still having fun? Honestly, this holiday doesn't seem to be a holiday after all with all the hoohaa of the H1N1 thingy. Besides, our exam results are still pending approval to be released from QUB.
.
Some of you guys are busy with family functions, some had fever and some just being silly not knowing what to do with the holiday. What a waste... Go out guys... Make some calls... Have fun while you can. Stop worrying bout the H1N1. It has been confirmed with WHO that it is mild so just avoid those confined places with lots of people. Of course its true the spreading is really fast but that doesnt mean you cant go to places like the beach, sport complex etc. Watching movie for now is a no no, especially during the day when lots of people tend to go for cheaper tickets. Wandering around at the mall is just a waste of time because you dont actually do anything there. So yeah, be creative guys and let us do something for our holiday. Any takers, please recommend any ideas and we can discuss about it together.
.
By the way, for those who hasn't got their flu shot, please get them as soon as possible. It doesnt prevent you from getting the H1N1 but it is a better precaution to prevent from getting the common flu which is more fatal. Furthermore, it boosts your immune system which is a good thing.
.
This 2nd semester has been quite an interesting one with lots of interesting gossips and hidden agendas that had been carried forward from the 1st semester. Full of drama. Not to forget also the interesting or perhaps weird call signs and names. We should make a BEng dictionary for that one since most the the group still oblivious to that for some unvalid reasons. Anyway, that sums up for this post, just keep checking for any updates on the holiday activities, if theres any ok.
.
Bye!

Bridge Breaking

Hey guys!

Been a while since the bridge meyer-ing post. Anyway, the BEngers finally made it to the breaking part of the bridge. Everybody felt quite sad at first to see their bridges to be torn apart but it turned out to be really fun & interesting. The fasting really helped for some group but the ones who did not, had their bridges failed earlier than at the estimated maximum failure weight. It was also found out the they had the 'eat all you can' @ ameenah areef the night before.
-
Congratulations to the winning bridge that can carry the most weight, equivalent to the weight of baby elephant with one leg missing and less hairy back. The group will receive free tickets to see the real baby elephant in LJ zoo.
-
That's all for now and HAPPY HOLIDAY!

Re: Bridge Testing

Hello Geng!

What a disappointing day for the supposedly bridge testing day because it turned to be the "meyer-ing your bridge day" only. Most of the gang felt sorry for the ones that were fasting from the day before and furthermore, there was no "Penyungkaian" that was supposed to be provided.

However, the LJ Community Services (LJCS) would like to give away Ameenah Areef (Twothong Branch) dine-in vouchers to these poor people. All you have to do is just sign in your name and phone number to the nearest LJCS office and they would be happy to serve and give you the vouchers to this amazing eatery. For this month, they are having free deep fried insects which you can request them to be mixed with your favourite food. Fantastic!

By the way, don't forget to come early tomorrow for the real bridge testing @ 0830hrs.

Thats all for now, BYE!

Bridge Testing

Hello BEngers!

Just to inform you guys our bridge testing will be on Wednesday 17th June 2009. Everybody should be present at the lab @ 1030hrs. Please wear appropriate clothing and preferably lightweight to prevent early "COLLAPSION" of the bridge before reaching the ultimate limit. Fasting a day before will help to lower down the live load that will contribute to the overall weight. For those who planned to fast, "Penyungkaian" will be provided by Lina & Nordin after the bridge testing.

Thats all for now

# Please contact Lina & Nordin for more info on the food. Kelip kelip!

RE: EXAM IS OVER! (Revision Week)

Hello again!

Thinking back to the exam that just ended last week, it was a very stressful time for everybody for which some had claimed not having enough time for their revision. The revision week was merely enough to recap the units from the very beginning of the semester but everybody had gone through many refinements to every units to high level of understanding.

The BEngers would like to thank all the lecturers for constantly improving our understandings, coping with our grammar, and suggesting outstanding improvements, our families and friends for their continual support, encouragement and feedback and most of all our GOD for guidance on how the brain works and giving us strength to endure sleepless nights, away from our beloved families most of the time and keeping us nonchalant through the exam days.

To fill in the missing gap from the post before the exam till today, the revision was all in all a fun week for everybody despite the ranting and ungratefulness of 'not sufficient notes given for revision', where you should have better known better to do research for yourself in the library or the like. Some stayed up all night researching through the internet along with facebook and all. Some slept in the early night then woke up just before dawn to do revision. Some even slept in the middle of revision with friends to pay off the stressful sleepless nights with wierd dreams of having chocolates (aka chocolate last semester), polvoron, wanting to become a pirate, etc. Here are some of the pictures to clarify the wierdness.
.
Shall i have the Hazelnut 1st or the Top Deck...mmm?
Or perhaps the Peppermint?
Polvorons... Yum... Is this even halal cos it says PINIPIG?
I'm Mrs Sparrow... hahaha!
Y am i thinking rubbish?
I just love to sleep....

Thats all for now, till next post hehehe...

EXAM IS OVER!

Hello BEngers!

Its been a while since the last post. Thanks to the neverending work and test given, up to the few days of our revision week, by our lovely lecturers. This 2nd semester was a bit tough than the last one in terms of time management. Most of us was near struggling with the overlapping work and tests. It had come to a point that it was not fair to all of us not to be able to manage our time with assignments, tests, family and revisions. Some was not happy with the few days of the revision week taken for lectures and test because a day or two is really precious for revision and making appointments with lecturers for any doubts on the units. Unfortunately there was nothing that can be done because thats how it was, is and will be done in here.

Now, the exam is over but we can only say half a yaaay because its not all over yet. Three quarter of the group will be doing their survey camp in Tasek Merimbun as a requirement for the course. The other quarter had done the camp during their HND course. Not to forget, the Bridge testing will be on the 16th/17th June together with the submission of the report.

To those doing the survey camp, good luck guys and please be patient with the heat, peer pressure and the sourness of everybodys BOs. After all, its all for your own benefits and have fun!
.
To be continued...

Bengers!

There will be no competition for best skecthes this time and anyone found exceeding the specified number of words will be circumcised for the second time by the URANUS correctional facility, so beware.

UK Visa Presentation

Hello BEngers!

For your information, there will be a short presentation on the new Visa requirements for students travelling to the UK on Monday 18th May @0900hrs, ITB Main Conference Room. Attendance is compulsory which will reflect your overall attendance to allow you to sit for the exam. Absentees will be blacklisted from entering the UK so if you are planning to go out on that day, you have to reschedule your timetable. Only appropriate attire is allowed during presentation and please switch on your phone bluetooths if you wish to communicate with each other rather than talking and interrupting the presentation.

Furthermore, you are advised to go for lunch right after the presentation because our lovely CM Dr will start his lecture from 12o0hrs onwards. He will be finishing his topic on soil, 'woid' in the soil & how to 'meyer' the moisture content. Please be attentive or interactive if you feel free to do so or otherwise he'll give you more lectures on how to be worthy to join the BEng program, or MEng for that matter.

Thats all for now!

Updates!

Hey BEngers!

There will be no MOSAS lecture on Thursday, so the whole morning we can continue our bridge building as per discussion by our representative. The lecture will be on Monday 11th May @ 0800hrs. For those who have finished their bridges, they can help to buy something to nibble & munch while the others are busy doing their work. A nice cucur pisang and bottled water are fine with everybody or anything that has 0% trans fat and low calories. Confirmation on Ideal Restaurant, Excapade & Indian food is still pending for approval.

Just for the record, it is recommended for everybody to get their Tamiflu shot as soon as possible as a preventive measure for the swine flu (or shine flu for that matter). Its not as lethal as bird flu but the spreading level now is quite high (Level 5). Furthermore, for those who haven't had tequila shots before, it is strongly advised not to take them at all cost or in any circumstances whatsoever. Normal virgin cocktails or mocktails are just fine and there are many choices to choose from. You can even make it yourself at home, just surf the net for the recipe.

Thats all for now

Bridge Inspection ++

Evening BEngers

The Design & Structural Engineers (B) Sdn Bhd had conducted a joint inspection on our site this afternoon. Everybody was suprised by the visit where some even had wetted their pants. The inspection was to make sure that everybody is on the right track. It was also a good opportunity to raise any queries regarding the design and construction of the bridge. Everbody seemed to be on the last stage of the construction in which the bridge probably will be finished by the end of the week. Good job guys. 'Good job, give 'em up way high, gimme gimme that high five'.

Anyway, the final inspection will be after the exam so the as-built drawings must be prepared and submitted on the that day to finalize the account. The winning group will get free tickets to the Civil Engineering Survey Camp to see how the surveying works are really done in the real world other than the land of LJ. There will be also a draw for a trip to the URANUS correctional facility. You might be the lucky ones to meet the amah couple that was recently caught. Awesome...!
